Back 4 Blood Developers Say It Won’t Be Getting A Versus Campaign

Turtle Rock Studios has responded to requests for a versus campaign in Back 4 Blood, stating that it won't be happening.

Redditor RadiumPwd put together a thread on the Back 4 Blood subreddit, discussing the developer's response to requests for a versus campaign mode. RadiumPwd asked Turtle Rock Studios if a versus campaign was possible to which they had a "quick and decisive no".

Following on from this, another member of the Discord channel asked the developers to explain why the mode was cut from the game, considering how popular it was in Left 4 Dead. The studio answered, "We have a lot of defensive equipment and our specials are good at ambushing. Defending worked far better for our game than running from A-B".

Following these discussions on Discord, Turtle Rock Studios updated the F&Q to include a notice about the versus campaign. It says, "We do not have plans to have a campaign versus mode at this time". From the comments made on Discord, "at this time" sounds a lot like never.

Back 4 Blood does have a versus mode, but it's very different from what most fans had been asking for. The mode in Back 4 Blood has players defending themselves from an onslaught of AI and player-controlled zombies, acting much more like a horde mode than the typical versus mode. Left 4 Dead's Versus campaigns were arguably its most popular mode and featured four human players trying to get through the game's main missions whilst a team of four zombies would try and interfere.

Despite being a title that many were excited for, the general response to this on the Back 4 Blood subreddit has been incredibly negative. The Back 4 Blood subreddit is full of negative responses to the Open Beta, with many of the negative reactions centring around the new versus mode and how it isn't what the community wants. There are still some positive posts, but the community has turned around quickly after getting the chance to play.
