Battlefield 2042 Is Bringing Back Fan Favorite Maps

It's been confirmed that Battlefield 2042 will have a new component or mode that includes remastered versions of fan-favorite maps from previous Battlefield games.

A potential leak surfaced about this new mode a couple of weeks before today's news, but it has now been confirmed during the EA Play Live 2021 Spotlight broadcast that aired earlier today. At around the 7:15 mark, Christian Grass, General Manager of the newly rebranded Ripple Effect Studios, explains that fan-favorite maps are being added to Battlefield 2042, but doesn't go into detail about how they'll fit into the overall experience.

As for what maps Grass could be referring to, fans have been making a few predictions on Twitter. Most notably, the same person who initially leaked the new mode, Tom Henderson, has also revealed the maps he has heard are coming to the game. These maps include Metro, Locker, Wake Island, Siege of Shanghai, Arica Harbour, and Caspian Border.

Although Henderson accurately predicted the announcement of this new mode, it's worth pointing out that he doesn't include any of his sources. While we know fan-favorite maps are coming to Battlefield 2042 in some capacity, you might want to take this list with a pinch of salt as it's all just rumors for now.

Battlefield 2042's secret third mode might be a mystery right now, but fans can rest easily knowing that it most likely won't be a battle royale mode of any kind. Back when the game was initally announced, Dice was quick to let fans know that the game will not include a single-player campaign or a battle royale mode.

However, it likely won't be long before we do find out what this mode is. EA Play Live is just around the corner, and EA has opted to focus on "games that are coming out soon", meaning that it's highly likely we'll learn more about the game at the event. Battlefield 2042 is set to launch on October 22nd later this year for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. If you'd like to know more about the game, you can read our preview here.
