A developer has brought 2007's BioShock up to speed with modern visual fidelity by remaking part of it in Unreal Engine 5 – Rapture looks divine, to put it simply.
BioShock 1 and 2's remasters launched in 2016 to mixed responses. Critics and audiences alikehighlighted that the remasters kept many of the original bugs, rather than ironing them out, while also bringing back otherwiswe patched ones. However, those were 'remastered' – they weren't built from the ground-up again as in the case of remakes. The two games were ported over to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with a few visual tweaks and so this Unreal Engine 5 rendition is far more ambitious.

As spotted by PCGamesN, this remake comes from noodlespagoodle. Using some of BioShock's original textures, they have created an entirely new section of Rapture to demo what the game would look like in Unreal Engine 5. They did something similar back in 2014 for Unreal Engine 4, two years before the remasters.
As seen in the video, you can make out various weapons such as the iconic wrench, a higher quality version of the original's UI, a Splicer, a Little Sister, a Big Daddy, and the Gatherer's Garden vending machine. However, the voice acting is original to bring to life new characters – Darwin and Songbird.
With being in Unreal Engine 5, the lighting is improved, the textures have been upscaled, and the gameplay appears much smoother with a crisper HUD.
If you were hoping to get your hands on it, though, that won't be happening. Noodlespagoodle claims that it is a "tribute to an iconic franchise," and so the demo will not release to the public.
However, BioShock 4 is still underway, an open-world entry that will depart from Rapture and Columbia. Whether we'll ever see an official remake of BioShock is unclear, but for now, we have a glimpse into another world, one where the 2007 classic FPS is modernized.
