Fan designs for console bundles are a somewhat uncommon form of fan art, but they still come up from time to time. With a franchise as widely acclaimed and a sequel as highly anticipated as God of War: Ragnarok, fan concepts for a PS5 bundle seem almost inevitable.
God of War: Ragnarok is the second title in the rebooted God of War series that pushes the hack-and-slash gameplay the franchise was previously known for aside in favor of telling a more engaging story. The initial game originally launched on PS4 in 2018, and Ragnarok seems poised to continue the compelling narrative of the first game in the rebooted series.

God of War España, the Spanish community account for God of War, posted a concept edit for a God of War: Ragnarok PS5 along with the caption (roughly translated) "We hope you like the edit we have made of #GodofWar on the #PS5." The special edition console concept includes an interesting choice for the faceplate design, with a highly stylized presentation invoking the feel of 1920s American national park posters with its striking contrasts and high-depth landscape. The controller gets a more subdued makeover, with the Ragnarok logo on the touchpad and a shiny gold color applied to its bumpers and triggers.
Custom designs are nothing new to the PlayStation line, with the PS4 receiving numerous special editions over the years, and some owners applying custom console skins to their PlayStations. PS5 consoles themselves are still difficult to come by, and COVID causing problems in the manufacturing process may be why Sony has not released a special edition PS5 yet.
God of War: Ragnarok could be the perfect opportunity to bring a new design out. A PS4 Pro bundle with a similar concept was released alongside the PS4 God of War game, so it would make sense to do so for Ragnarok as well. The PS4 Pro bundle featured a somewhat minimal design, with Norse symbols on the console and the game's logo on the touchpad of the controller. It is unclear whether a potential Ragnarok bundle would take a similar approach. The 1920s poster-inspired design of the fan concept is a striking choice that could be worth considering, but as with all fan designs, it is unlikely that it will actually be used for an official bundle.
God of War quickly became the best-reviewed PS4 game when it launched in 2018, and Sony Santa Monica has daunting expectations to live up to for its sequel. Especially with Ragnarok slated for release on PS5, the game will need to be a true technical showcase as well as mechanically sound and narratively compelling in order to live up to its predecessor. Considering how little has been shown of Ragnarok so far, the developers evidently want to wait to show the game off until it is at its best.
A God of War sequel is currently in development for the PlayStation 5.
