It seems the gaming world has moved on from Cyberpunk 2077 and its numerous issues. CD Projekt Red’s ambitious project is now mostly referred to as what not to do while putting out a new game. The team recently released the massive 1.3 patch that added a bunch of new content and a plethora of fixes, but it seems that cars are still flying around in ways they’re not supposed to.
However, one dataminer looked through the files of the latest patch and has surmised that the multiplayer mode and further expansions to the game could still be on their way. As spotted by VGC, Tyler McVicker noticed references to “multiplayer gyms” in the game’s executable. Apart from that, references of “old multiplayer” suggest that these files could be related to the original multiplayer plans for Cyberpunk 2077.

Back in March, the developer released a revised roadmap which had no mention of online features or modes. Instead of a separate multiplayer mode, CDPR instead talked about working on bringing multiplayer directly to the base game. However, not much more was heard about this till June, when a new job listing suggested that the developer was still working on multiplayer features. The listing was for a gameplay designer with experience in “narrative, multiplayer and/or shooter” games. The listing goes on to say the chosen candidate will be working on “the best multiplatform AAA RPGs”.
However, none of what McVicker has uncovered has officially been revealed by CD Projekt Red, and may eventually amount to nothing. Though, CDPR will be looking for a win after the disastrous launch of the game; a new and engaging multiplayer mode just might buy them a bit more time to get the base game in perfect shape for a comeback.
While the developers are busy trying to get the game in suitable condition, modders have taken it upon themselves to do the same. Scissors123454321 has released the Full Gameplay Rebalance mod which claims to iron out a major portion of the game’s bugs and balancing issues. The major bulk of the rework was around the game’s combat.
