Destiny 2 Updates PvP Rules To Ban Win Trading, Account Recoveries

Destiny 2 has had it with cheaters. BattlEye just got installed on its servers as of yesterday, and this new dedicated anti-cheat software will definitely go a long way to keeping cheaters away, but BattlEye is but one facet of Bungie's strategy to defeating the cheater menace.

Along with BattlEye, Bungie has also updated its policies to officially ban win trading and account recoveries. Win trading was a big issue earlier this year when players discovered a method that allowed them to communicate with like-minded teams to trade wins in order to go flawless in Trials of Osiris. The Hakke Emblem method, as it was called, led to a slew of new flawless players who achieved the pinnacle of Destiny 2's PvP game mode without even firing a shot.

Bungie eventually figured out a way to circumvent the Hakke Emblem method, and now it's officially stating that any new win-trading methods will get players banned.

Account recovery is what Bungie calls giving someone else access to your Destiny 2 account. Certain innocuous practices still won't result in a ban, such as sharing an account with a close friend or giving temporary access so someone can try out a certain weapon roll, but giving account access so someone else can grind PvP in order to farm rewards is now grounds for a ban (and Bungie still doesn't recommend giving your account info to anyone).

As with win trading, account recovery was mostly an issue in Trials of Osiris where some players would charge money for grinding out rewards on other players’ accounts. Hopefully with Season 15’s new Trials reward structure and the new ban policy, this will no longer be an issue.
