Elden Ring Gets A Steam Store Page Ahead Of Launch

Elden Ring has garnered a mythical status like George R. R. Martin's finale to the Game of Thrones novels but it looks like it's actually real – it's just taking as long to come as Winter did. The trailer dropped at the Summer Games Fest but now, ahead of it's 2022 release, as spotted by PCGamesN, a Steam page has cropped up.

"Planned Release Date: 20 January, 2022," the page opens. You can add it to your wishlist to get notified when pre-orders are live but you can't put forward any money just yet. There's gifs, screenshots, and some bog-standard descriptive text telling you what the crack is. There's no new info on the page.

"Rise, Tarnished, and be guided by grace to brandish the power of the Elden Ring and become an Elden Lord in the Lands Between," the about section opens, "In addition to customizing the appearance of your character, you can freely combine weapons, armor, and magic that you equip. You can develop your character according to your play style, such as increasing your muscle strength to become a strong warrior, or mastering magic."

A prophecized hero waking up from a lengthy kip to slaughter big bads, taking their souls, becoming the new big bad, certainly sounds Soulslike. But it might not just be a Soulslike, it might be a direct continuation of Dark Souls. George R. R. Martin said as much and he's the writer but perhaps he just got a bit confused by all of FromSoftware's back catalog.

The page also discusses Elden Ring's online, "In addition to multiplayer, where you can directly connect with other players and travel together, the game supports a unique asynchronous online element that allows you to feel the presence of others." It's vague but it sounds an awful lot like seeing the ghastly phantoms dying in other worlds as in Dark Souls.

Finally, there are the tags – listed are "Soulslike," "Dark Fantasy," "Great Soundtrack," "Anime," and "Walking Simulator." Yup, sounds about right.
