F1 2021 Takes Pole From Skyward Sword In UK Boxed Chart

Skyward Sword's stay at the top of the UK boxed chart has been cut at just one week thanks to F1 2021 suffering a less steep drop in sales.

The merry-go-round that is the number one spot in the UK boxed chart continues once again this week. The numbers are in, and despite no major releases last week, The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD failed to make it two weeks in a row at number one. The Nintendo Switch remake suffered a 74% drop in sales between weeks one and two, unlike the game that now occupies pole position.

F1 2021 is now number one thanks to the racing sim experiencing a less drastic drop-off. Just a 37% decrease from week one to week two according to GamesIndustry.biz's Christopher Dring. Its the second year in a row an F1 game has topped the chart. F1 2020 brought an end to The Last Of Us 2's lengthy reign at number one a little more than a year ago.

Elsewhere in the chart, another injection of PS5 stock has resulted in some of its top-sellers soaring back up the ranks. Game dropped a fresh batch of consoles late last week, and other retailers had them in stock too. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is back up to number three, while Spider-Man: Miles Morales sold well too. Its 242% increase resulted in it settling at number six this week.

The full chart has not been published at the time of typing this, but it's highly likely the rest of the top ten is filled by the usual suspects. The likes of GTA 5, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. That Zelda games appear unable to hold onto spots in those top ten in the UK is quite telling. Skyward Sword HD is only the fourth Zelda game ever to top its physical chart.

As for next week, it's highly likely the same games will be battling it out for number one once again. There aren't really many major releases for the next few weeks, in fact. At least not titles that are going to make it to the number one spot. That might now be safe until the release of Madden 22 a few weeks from now.
