Fans Believe This Sea Of Thieves Easter Egg Hints At Another Crossover

Sea of Thieves players have unearthed an Easter Egg in the game’s recent expansion that hints at another crossover coming to the action-adventure game. Within the recently released Pirates of the Caribbean expansion, A Pirate’s Life, players have found a secret that has nothing to do with Captain Jack and his band of pirates, but instead focuses on another Disney-acquired property. Warning, if you haven’t finished the A Pirate’s Life expansion, there will be spoilers ahead.

At the end of A Pirate’s Life, players get to explore the remains of a shipwreck. As they step through the wreckage, a very familiar theme song begins to play – the theme to Monkey Island. As players explore the ship further, more is revealed to connect the ship to Monkey Island. Specifically, it is revealed that the ship belongs to Captain Kate Capsize, one of the characters from the second installment in the Monkey Island series.

While relatively small when it comes to Easter Eggs, players feel this is more than coincidence and many believe developer Rare is gearing up to announce a Monkey Island expansion soon. Especially considering that Captain Kate Capsize is framed and imprisoned during the story of Monkey Island 2 and appears to be tracking down the protagonist, Guybrush Threepwood, to get revenge. Perhaps that hunt for revenge has led her to the Sea of Thieves. You can check out the Easter Egg in the video below and reminisce about exploring the ‘Tri-Island Area” once again.

If this is indeed setting up a Monkey Island crossover, it will be the first time Disney has done anything with the property since acquiring LucasArts in 2012. It would also be the first installment in the Monkey Island series since LucasArts teamed with Telltale Games to produce an episodic adventure set in the game’s universe. While nothing has been confirmed, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Disney set up a Monkey Island-themed expansion. Especially as the company has already stated that they want to work with more video game studios to create new stories with their established IPs.

For now, players can enjoy the A Pirate’s Life expansion for Sea of Thieves and get a jolt of nostalgia as they dive into Captain Capsize’s ship and reminisce about hunting down the treasure of Big Whoop.
