Final Fantasy 9 Fan Makes Their Own LEGO Figures of the Game’s Characters

Fans of the Final Fantasy series have created many unique projects since the franchise began in 1987, and this new project shines a light on Final Fantasy 9. A fan of the series has combined their love of Final Fantasy and LEGO in a fun mashup.

A Reddit user known as Brick_Ninja recently posted their LEGO Final Fantasy 9 Figures. These Final Fantasy 9 characters are made through several repurposed LEGO pieces as well as some redesigned ones. The characters included are from the main cast of the game and include Princess Garnet, Adelbert Steiner, the Black Mage Vivi, and finally the protagonist Zidane.

Due to the role-playing nature of Final Fantasy 9, players are able to rename their characters to whatever they wish, but these are the base names attached to the characters Brick_Ninja has recreated in LEGO form. The figures are also equipped with the appropriate weapons to these characters, with Garnet and Vivi wielding two different staves and Steiner and Zidane wielding two different swords.

Due to his typically blank expression in Final Fantasy 9, Steiner's LEGO figure most closely resembles the in-game character. Vivi dons his iconic mage hat with this LEGO figure and a repurposed Jawa head from the Star Wars set is perfect for a Final Fantasy Black Mage. His hat and torso have been slightly altered from the original LEGO pieces, but he's mostly made of repurposed pieces.

Garnet's torso remains the most touched-up piece of the Final Fantasy 9 set as Brick_Ninja claims they had to adjust the colors in Photoshop in order for the skin to all match and for the shirt to match the legs. Garnet's arms and legs both needed adjustments as well, making Garnet the most redesigned character of Brick_Ninja's Final Fantasy 9 cast.

Fans of Zidane may be wondering why his hair is such a dark color in Brick_Ninja's set. According to the LEGO enthusiast, this is due to the few color options for tails and their desire to match Zidane's hair and tail. LEGOs hair options don't all have tails in the same color, so Brick_Ninja went for a light color that did match.

Several Final Fantasy 9 fans responded to Brick_Ninja's post with assurances that they need this character set as well. Thankfully for some of them, the Reddit user posted a part list for other LEGO enthusiasts to recreate the same set. Following the Bricklink's attached to each piece associated with the Final Fantasy 9 characters will show the great lengths Brick_Ninja went to assure visual accuracy.

Final Fantasy 9 is available on PC, PS1, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
