GOG Giving Away Three Free Games for Limited Time | Game Rant

From now until September 3rd, Good Old Games is giving out three critically-acclaimed retro-action games completely free of charge. These range from the complex sci-fi strategy title Syndicate Wars to the hack-and-slash role-playing Ultima Underworldseries.

Often abbreviated to GOG, Good Old Games is a digital distribution platform for video games and films. Furthermore, the store-front is widely available across multiple operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux. It should be said that GOG is DRM free, a feature celebrated by gamers as it means no account authentication or online connection is required to play any of the following titles.

Syndicate Plusis an isometric real-time tactical and strategic game from Bullfrog Productions, releasing back in 1993 on a variety of platforms beginning with the PC and Commodore Amiga. Set in a dystopian future in which corporations have replaced governments, Syndicate puts the player in control of a corporation vying for global dominance. Agent armaments, cybernetic modifications and behavioral attributes can be controlled by the player to make them more suited for the vast array of blood-spattered undertakings. This title is available on Windows (7, 8, 10) and Mac OS X.

With a much heavier focus on the strategic elements from Syndicate Plus, the acclaimed follow-up Syndicate Wars is now free-to-play. The sequel manages to retain the core gameplay and perspective of the original, but with a setting 95 years into the future. However, unlike the prior instalment, Syndicate Wars features the competitive multiplayer mode Multicorp. Often described as a mixture of Quake and Command & Conquer, Multicorp pits players in an all-out war, with the main goal being to wipe out the opponent's corporation. Players can pick this up on Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8) and Mac OS X.

Finally, Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 are revolutionary first-person role-playing games developed by Blue Sky Productions, later Looking Glass Studios. The original Underworld takes place inside the Great Stygian Abyss, a large cave that contains the remnants of a failed utopian civilization. Here, the player assumes the role of the Avatar and attempts to rescue a baron's kidnapped daughter. This is a stark contrast to the sequel that spans multiple dimensions, the end game being to prevent an evil Guardian from achieving world domination. Both of these are accessible on Windows (7, 10) and Mac OS X.

In an industry filled with block-busting $60 games, these widely celebrated free-to-play games are a huge financial breather. It should also be noted that no payment is required to sign up to Good Old Games, meaning any gamer can pick up any of the listed games without having to spend a single dollar.

Good Old Games is available on Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux.
