As Travis basically explains in the pre-fight cutscene, Gold Joe uses magnetic polarity with his attacks, if Travis is the opposite polarity, he'll be dragged into the attacks, and if he has the same polarity, he'll be able to avoid them more easily. As mentioned before, Gold Joe's attacks can output huge amounts of damage, so it'll likely take you a couple of tries in order to figure out his attack patterns.

There will be both blue and red tiles on the floor, blue symbolised with an S over Travis' head which represents the polarity of the Southern hemisphere, meanwhile a red panel will give Travis an N, signifying the Northern hemisphere's polarity. Gold Joe will have one of these symbols above his head when he attacks, and if you keep an eye out, you'll be able to see when it's coming.

Luckily, Gold Joe is quite susceptible to being stunned by strong attacks, so Mustang Mode or Travis' Full Armor mode will deal a hefty amount of damage, and knock Gold Joe out of whatever attack animation he may be readying. When Gold Joe isn't using a devastating magnetic attack, a Perfect Dodge is perfectly achieveable – but while Gold Joe goes spinning-top mode and starts attracting Travis, it can spell near-guaranteed disaster if you're the wrong polarity. With that said, there is still a chance to overpower him.

If you dodge to the side repeatedly when Gold Joe charges you with his spinning attack, you can avoid it, even if you are the incorrect polarity. Unfortunately though, there is no Perfect Dodge chance on this attack, so you're best off using the correct polarity to avoid this move if possible.

Gold Joe does a lot of damage very quickly, but if you're able to avoid his attacks for long enough, his health bar will fall swiftly. Keep up the attempts and you'll be able to beat through Gold Joe's tactics soon enough.
