Grand Theft Auto 5: Enhanced Edition PS5 Performance Details Possibly Revealed

While fans have been anxiously awaiting any scrap of news about Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar Games has been plunking away at other projects. The most notable upcoming release is Grand Theft Auto 5: Enhanced Edition, the newest version of the hit game that will bring it to the PS5 and Xbox Series X in a big way. Thanks to a new leak, fans have a better idea of how the game will perform, at least on the PS5.

Reddit users on r/GamingLeaks have translated a blog post from PlayStation Germany that seems to confirm the game will run at 4K 60 FPS on the PlayStation 5. While many have presumed that the game would see such a boost, Rockstar has been ambiguous about the specifics of the slate improvements that are coming to the game since its reveal, which had raised questions about how much of an improvement the port will really be.

Roughly translated via Google Translate, a portion of the post reads "You have never seen the criminal metropolis Los Santos so beautiful when the skyline shines thanks to a bold graphic update in crisp 4K resolution." It goes on to state, "you make the city extremely smooth and unsafe thanks to a smooth 60 FPS." Translation errors aside, it's a pretty on-the-nose indication that fans will be getting 4K 60 FPS out of the game. As with anything, though, it's best to take the information with a grain of salt for now, at least until Rockstar officially confirms the boost.

With Grand Theft Auto 5 now nearly a decade old, and having already received a cross-generation port that brought visual upgrades, 4K 60FPS gameplay isn't much of a surprise, though it should mean a buttery experience for fans that have managed to get their hands on the system, assuming that PlayStation Germany's information is accurate. The question now is whether or not 4K 60 FPS will be enough to motivate fans to upgrade to the new version, assuming that the upgrade isn't free.

After all, it's as of yet unclear if Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced Edition will be free for PS4 and Xbox One owners or not, and improvements to resolution and frame rate might not be all that compelling for those that have purchased the game twice already. Of course, Grand Theft Auto Online is still a huge deal, regularly releasing updates and running limited-time events. For some, the leap may be worth it to enjoy a superior version of that content.

Regardless, fans should expect to hear something more information on the game soon. It's been nearly a year since it was announced, and with no word of other major Rockstar games on the horizon, Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced Edition seems like it will be filling the void until Grand Theft Auto 6 releases.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The Enhanced Edition is in development for PS5 and Xbox Series X.
