Hogwarts Legacy Fan Spots Terrifying Detail in Cover Art

Not a lot is known about Hogwarts Legacy just yet, as there hasn't really been anything shown since the initial reveal trailer. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, players have spent a good amount of time digging up whatever details they can from this trailer and the promotional poster that accompanied it. While this has certainly led to some interesting discoveries, it has also caused quite a bit of skepticism, as the Harry Potter RPG is set during the late 1800s, far before the events of the books and movies that fans are familiar with. This most recent discovery is in a similar place.

Arachnophobia trigger warning.

Redditor General-Discount-305 was one such Hogwarts Legacy fan searching every inch of the poster for something new when they stumbled upon what appears to be a giant spider. It's difficult to see in the poster without zooming in very far, and the second image below shows exactly where it is. Players with a fear of spiders should avoid clicking on to the second image.

Fans already knew that there would be giant spiders in the game, as the reveal trailer for Hogwarts Legacy does show the protagonist fighting against some of them. Even so, this discovery is off-putting for a number of reasons. Even ignoring the fact that it's a creepy spider peeking out of a cave covered in webs, it also raises questions about why it's there in the first place. The giant spider that Harry Potter fans are familiar with is Aragog, Hagrid's pet Acromantula, but there's on way it would have been born yet in the late 1800s. It's possible that this is simply a different Acromantula, but Hagrid and Aragog's dialogue in the books seem to imply that Aragog was the first Acromantula introduced to the area, although this is never explicitly stated.

Rather than fuss about whether or not there should be an Acromantula in the Forbidden Forest at this time, players can simply turn to a tweet made by D. C. Allen, one of the writers for Hogwarts Legacy. When asked about why the Whomping Willow is in the poster even though it wasn't brought to the Hogwarts ground until much later, he responds that it was a rookie mistake. He applies the same logic to the Shrieking Shack. This has led many fans to assume that the poster is purely promotional and doesn't necessarily represent what is in the game.

With any luck, fans won't have to wait long to find out where these Acromantulas are and whether or not it makes sense within the canon. This is an unexplored period of Hogwarts' history, so the writers do have a lot of space for creative freedom.

Hogwarts Legacy releases for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X in 2022.
