The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is finally available on Nintendo Switch, and you may not remember – or you may not have played it on the Wii at all – but this is a meaty game, lengthier than many Zelda titles, with a lot for you to get through at your own pace. If you're aiming for 100% completion, then there is a lot to collect. One of the best items though, is the Absurdly Sturdy Shield, which is actually the Hylian Shield, which has been iconic in the series since Ocarina of Time.

The Hylian Shield can't be obtained through the shop or upgrades, which is a shame, as it is easily the best shield in the game, as it never breaks. Instead, to unlock this shield you'll need to have already progressed through a majority of the game, and then undertake a fairly steep Boss Rush challenge. If you really want the Hylian Shield in Skyward Sword HD, this is the only way, so prepare for a tough fight ahead.
How To Get The Hylian Shield In Zelda: Skyward Sword HD
In order to get the Hylian Shield in Zelda: Skyward Sword, you will first need to have revived all three of the elemental dragons that live on the surface. Once that's done, you'll be able to return to Lanayru, the Thunder Dragon, at Lanayru Gorge, which you drop straight to from the sky. If you haven't yet unlocked Lanayru Gorge, then you're certainly not far enough into the game to get the Hylian Shield yet. Once you've returned to Lanayru Gorge, talk to Lanayru and he will tell you that he has new challenges for you. Ignore the Silent Realm challenge for now, and instead take on the Battle challenge. This will allow you to battle a variety of boss monsters from across you adventure.
Select that you wish to start from the beginning, and then select Ghirahim. Now the battle begins.
You will need to beat Ghirahim, and once the fight has concluded you'll need to go straight onto the next, until you've finally defeated every larger boss in Skyward Sword over again, with the same amount of health – though you can find health pick ups in certain boss chambers.

- Scaldera
- Moldarach
- The Imprisoned
- Koloktos
- Tentalus
- The Imprisoned (again)
- Ghirahim (again)
Once you've beaten through all of these boss encounters, you'll be given the Absurdly Sturdy Shield, which is emblazoned with the classic Hylian Shield design, making this Link truly look like the legendary hero.
