Little Nightmares 2 Adds Ray-Tracing And More In New Enhanced Edition

Little Nightmares 2 Enhanced Edition has arrived for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It's a free upgrade or you can purchase it separately if you do not own the base game.

It adds ray-traced reflections, volumetric shadows, immersive spatial audio, and more. It has also been worked on in collaboration with the BAFTA award-winning studio Supermassive Games.

Little Nightmares 2 is a sidescrolling puzzle-platformer with horror elements. Both the original and second game are dystopias with scathing critiques on contemporary culture and consumption. This is evident in the second as blatantly as through the allure of the hypnotic televisions that distract enemies. Both games were developed by Tarsier Studios.

There's no word on whether any DLC will be released. The first received a batch of expansions, but there's a key difference here. Tarsier Studios is seemingly done with the Little Nightmares series.

"For the last six years, our mission has been to create mesmerizing worlds," Tarsier Studios stated. "Little Nightmares was our first attempt and was a huge success. That being said, it is bitter sweet to announce that we are leaving the world of Little Nightmares behind us. It is now time for us to embark on a new chapter, create new IPs, and explore new worlds."

While Tarsier Studios is done, publisher Bandai Namco said, "Since we received so much love from fans all around the world with the release of Little Nightmares 2, we feel energized to deliver more content in the future."

It could be that this is why Supermassive Games has been brought into the fold, to deliver potential DLC or sequels, or it could just be that Bandai Namco was referencing the now-available Enhanced Edition. Whatever the case, Little Nightmares 2 has crossed the next-gen threshold at long last.
