The PS5 file size for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy game from Square Enix has leaked, and it's surprisingly small in comparison to other games from the publisher. This news comes from the ever-reliable PlayStation Game Size Twitter account which revealed the details earlier today. According to the leak, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy's PS5 file size will be 41.243GB without the day one patch.

In comparison to other big budget games from Square Enix, this is relatively small. For example, Final Fintasy VII Remake's download size on PS4 was over 100GB, although Intergrade's file size was cut down to 81GB for the PS5. Similarly, Marvel's Avengers file size on PS5 is a pretty hefty 74GB and an even heftier 104GB on Xbox Series X.
This likely means that the game will be shorter and possibly less graphically intense than these previous games, although that's not surprising considering how high-profile Final Fantasy is and how Marvel's Avengers is a live service game. It makes sense that a single-player, fairly linear experience would differ quite dramatically in its file size.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy's pre-load date has also been leaked alongside the game's file size. Players who pre-order the game digitally will able to start downloading the game on October 24, just a couple of days from release. This means that even the weakest of Internet connections should be able to handle the download in time for launch day.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is expected to launch on October 26 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. If you want to play the game on your Switch, be aware that you'll be playing the Cloud Version of the game and you'll need a pretty strong Internet connection to be able to do so.
If you'd like to know more about the game before it launches next month, we have a couple of interviews with senior creative director Jean-François Dugas for you to read. The first is an interview that explains how the game is more Oxenfree than Mass Effect when it comes to dialogue, and the second is about how James Gunn's films have shaped the game during development.
