Master Chief Is Your Co-Pilot With Latest Waze Update

If you’ve ever had problems finding your way around town, there’s a chance you’ve used Waze to get proper directions. While the app can be useful, the regular narrator’s voice can be too dang boring. That’s why you’ve probably turned to one of the special celebrity voices to help guide you through your road trip. Morgan Freeman can tell you which highway to turn onto, Jay Leno can tell you where to buy a denim suit, or somehow you can summon Elvis Priestley from the grave to give you the location of the nearest Starbucks.

With the release of Halo Infinite coming sometime this fall, we’re going to be seeing a lot of Master Chief’s face plastered all over the place. And now we can hear the dulcet tones of his voice anytime we’re lost as he’s the newest celebrity voice coming to Waze.

Yes, Master Chief has arrived on Waze as part of a promotion for Halo Infinite. If you’ve recently updated the app, then you should see a section called “Drive With Master Chief.” Tap that and John-117 will tell you where to go.

In an odd move, one of the game’s main villains, Escharium, is also available to select as a narrator. So you can either have Master Chief or the Banished war chief who wants to destroy the USNC direct you to the closest gas station. In addition to these narrators, Waze has some other Halo content for fans. You can choose an icon for your vehicle that shows it as a warthog or a ghost and choose your mood which will determine whether you side with Master Chief or Escharium. It’s nice to have options.

It’s a little goofy, but it’s a neat little promotion to help hype up Halo Infinite’s launch. As of right now, we still don’t know exactly when the highly anticipated shooter is coming out, but hopefully, it’s coming sooner rather than later. The game’s closed beta is currently running and so far, it seems like people have positive things to say. The game certainly has some entertaining bots, although the destructible fruit is pretty lackluster. And let’s face it, if you can’t destroy individual pieces of fruit, you might as well throw that game in the trash.

Master Chief’s voice is only supposed to be a limited-time option for a narrator, although we don’t know when this promotion will end. So if you want to have Chief tell you the fastest route to the Grand Canyon, you better load up Waze before Halo Infinite hits store shelves this fall.
