Monster Hunter Rise Adds Street Fighter’s Akuma

You will soon be able to hunt monsters as Street Fighter's Akuma thanks to the third of five in-game Capcom Collabs.

There's a trend at the moment which suggests if a developer wants their game to enjoy huge amounts of success, it needs to team up with a different series or franchise. It's why Sonic will be a playabale character in Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, why there are Mario cosmetics in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and also why you can be just about anybody from pop culture in Fortnite at this point.

The easiest crossovers for a studio to perform are ones in which a character from one series shows up in another that is developed in the same studio. Nintendo and Sega have done it, as outlined above, and Capcom has been doing it too. Various characters from different Capcom games have been showing up in Monster Hunter Rise, and now it's Akuma's turn.

Street Fighter fans will instantly recognize Akuma as he has been a part of the iconic fighting series for more than 25 years. He arrives in Monster Hunter Rise on August 27 and as you can see in the trailer above, he is all about taking things back to basics when hunting monsters. As is the case in Street Fighter, Akuma likes to try and take down the game's behemoths with his bare hands.

Akuma-themed hunt layer armor will be an event request reward later this month. When no weapons are equipped, Akuma will get to work taking down monsters doing what he does best, delivering uppercuts and the like. This is the third Capcom Collab in Monster Hunter Rise following the addition of Amaterasu from Okami. There are still two more collabs yet to be announced.

As is usually the case when it comes to Smash Bros. DLC, the speculation as to who or what the next two collabs might be can now commence. Mega Man might make the cut, or perhaps Lady Dimitrescu or someone else from the Resident Evil universe. There was only a month between collab two and collab three, so you probably won't have to wait all that long to find out.
