Cartoon Network's modern classic animated show Adventure Time took fans on endless fantasy-driven adventures. After the show's final season aired in 2018, followers of the series were left hoping for more. Adventure Time fans have been known to be as passionate and cult-like as admirers of other animated classics such as Spongebob Squarepants. Luckily, something new in the franchise is in the works at HBO Max.
After a year since the Adventure Time: Distant Lands spin-off was released, HBO Max is returning with another spin-off series: Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake. Cartoon Network Studios is also working on the ten-episode long series, which will follow the gender-swapped versions of Finn and Jake (the original main characters). Fionna and Cake were first introduced in season three of Adventure Time and quickly became fan-favorite characters.

The show premise describes an adventure through multiverses. Fionna and Cake will be helped by the Ice King on a journey of self-discovery, while a new villain keeps an eye on them in the shadows waiting to interrupt their plans. The show is being referred to as a young adult series and returning to the franchise is previous storyboard artist Adam Muto. There are also rumors that Donald Glover may return to voice Marshall Lee, a.k.a. Bad Little Boy, who is the gender-swapped alternative of Marceline the Vampire Queen. No release date for the show has been set yet.
Adventure Time first aired on Cartoon Network in 2010 and quickly became a fan favorite with a large cult following of all ages. The show is known for its characteristic quirky sense of humor and blending of animation styles. The original series, which ran for ten seasons, followed the fantastical adventures of Jake the dog and Finn the human in their post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo. Other characters like the Ice King, Princess Bubblegum, and BMO, among others, join in to interrupt Finn and Jake's world in unexpected ways.
With little other details about the new show released, such as returning or new cast members, an air of uncertainty remains around the new spin-off. With the popularity of Fionna and Cake's original debut in the show, hardcore fans of the Adventure Time series will probably appreciate the spin-off attempt. With each new addition to the show, the Adventure Time universe stays true to its theme song, "the fun will never end."
