With the remakes for the Pokemon Gen 4 games scheduled to come out later this year, there are plenty of questions surrounding the upcoming Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. However, if one Pokemon leaker is to be believed, at least one of those questions can now be put to rest by a screenshot that appears to confirm the presence of Fairy-type Pokemon in the new games.
Twitter user @eclipse_tt shares and discusses Pokemon theories, rumors, leaks, and analysis, and they recently shared a screenshot that appears to be from either Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl. In the image, which appears to show part of a Pokemon Contest Exhibition, a Bunneary is preparing to use the Fairy-type move Charm. Apparently, the screenshot was taken from a French-language build of the game, as Charm is spelled "Charme" and a Croagunk under Bunneary is scheduled to perform "Bombe Beurk" rather than Sludge Bomb.

Pokemon fans may be excited to hear that Fairy-types will be present in the Gen 4 remakes, as the games predate the new type by several years. It's already been confirmed that these games will tweak and update some of the other mechanics that came in the original Diamond and Pearl, so the presence of Fairy-types may not be a surprise. It's become a series tradition for Pokemon remakes to add in types that didn't exist when the original games came out. Omega Ruby and Alpha Saphire also featured Fairy-types, though it appears that those games might be more in-depth remakes than Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are likely to be.
This screenshot does not imply that Bunneary will be a Fairy-type in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, only that it will be able to learn Fairy-type moves. However, Normal-type Pokemon that were belatedly changed to Fairy-type such as Jigglypuff or Clefairy will likely show up as Fairy-types in the remakes. It's also very likely that Sylveon, the Fairy-type Eevee evolution, will be making an appearance.
As of this writing, it appears that fans are generally pleased to have Fairy-types returning, but few are shocked by the screenshot. It seems that many Pokemon fans simply assumed that Fairy-type would be added into Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl—and likely Pokemon Legends: Arceus by extension. However, at least one user expressed glee at the thought of crushing Sinnoh Champion Cynthia's Garchomp with the adorable Fairy-type Pokemon Togekiss, the ultimate evolution of Togepi.
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will release on November 19 for Nintendo Switch.
