Now, listen — we know a lot of you don’t like it when we write about Oscar winner Brie Larson’s ongoing relationship with Nintendo. We get it. We’re all a little bit lactose intolerant, too. But, much like you only have yourself to blame if you finish off an entire tub of Häagen-Dazs, we really can’t be held responsible for you clicking on another Brie Larson headline. You brought this upon yourself, you cheese-loving fool!

Ms Larson has teamed up with Nintendo so many times that we’ve had to create an entire tag just for the Captain Marvel actress: She’s been on adverts for the Switch, played Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and even had a fangirl moment over Doug Bowser, of all people. Now, she’s appeared in another advert, this time for Metroid Dread, but it’s a lot more low-key than the last one, with the actress curled up in her trailer between shoots, we’d guess.

Much like many women in games, Larson says that Samus Aran — who was notably revealed to be a woman at the end of the first Metroid game — was an inspiration to her as a young girl.

“This large, robotic, powerful character had this blonde ponytail woman at the end of it,” she says in the Instagram ad. She also says that Samus is her “go-to character” in Smash Bros. “She is an incredible leader, she’s out there just… protecting the universe!” Larson chuckles. “I can relate to that.”

Of course, Samus Aran doesn’t have the best track record for girl power in games — she’s certainly been sexualised enough over the years — but with Metroid Dread comes a new, modern take on what it means to be a powerful, independent woman in games.

Also, notably — and probably following Nintendo’s style guidelines — Larson says “Nintendo Switch Oh-Ell-Ee-Dee”. Not “Oh-Led”. So there you go.

So, what do you think of Brie’s latest Nintendo partnership? Do you think she’s actually enjoying Metroid Dread, or do you think she’s binging the Animal Crossing: New Horizons update like the rest of us? Let us know in the comments.
