Report: Crunch Rumor for Cyberpunk 2077 Was Blown Out of Proportion

While CD Projekt RED recently announced Cyberpunk 2077 has finally gone gold, a rumor that a number of staff were upset at the extra hours to meet release has overshadowed the game’s development. CD Projekt RED studio head Adam Badowski addressed the rumor, and now we have another report the rumor was blown out of proportion.

The new report comes from Game Informer (via LegacyKillaHD), where associate editor Liana Ruppert dismissed the earlier rumor (which Jason Schreier of Bloomberg published) as being far from the truth, per sources within CD Projekt RED.

“There was a discussion on ‘do we want to delay the game again’ or ‘do we want to do this'” Ruppert said. Reportedly, her sources said it was “a mass majority agreeing to the six day work week.” It’s worth noting the overtime made during crunch is paid overtime, alongside the 10% annual revenue that CD Projekt splits among the team members.

Liana added, “Everyone I’ve talked to has not seen it as a crunch.” Furthermore, the decision to work more to meet their launch “wasn’t a random ‘this is now mandatory'” thing and that “there was a discussion beforehand weighing the different options.”

Here’s a rundown on the game:
