Saints Row Reboot Teased for Gamescom Opening Night Live Next Week

Gamescom is slated to take place next week, so fans are getting a much closer insight into what's slated to appear at the annual convention, with Xbox announcing the date of its showcase and several upcoming games. One of the biggest parts of this year's festivities will be Geoff Keighley's Opening Night Live broadcast, and a new tease over on Twitter implies it'll feature a highly-anticipated reveal from an iconic IP.

Tweeting about the event earlier today, Keighley hinted that Saints Row will be appearing at his seminal Gamescom show in some capacity, teasing the unannounced follow-up through a new image. The picture reveals a brick wall covered in graffiti, with the word "rebooting" and the Third Street Saints emblem tagged in the center.

In case the image itself wasn't a solid enough tease, Keighley posted a link to the official Saints Row website, which also sports the teaser and allows players to register for updates regarding the sequel. Alongside that, the Saints Row Twitter account responded to Keighley's cryptic tweet, sending a picture of the Opening Night Live host and captioning it with eyes emojis. For those wanting to catch what will assumedly be the official reveal of the next game in the franchise, they can tune into Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25 at 11:00 AM PT.

Although its appearance next week is a welcome surprise for Saints Row fans, the existence of a follow-up isn't. The latest game in the franchise was confirmed to be in development all the way back in 2019, with developer Volition being very open about working on a new take on the series. It'll be interesting to see what the studio does with the property now it's had some time away from it, with the last mainline entry in the franchise, Saints Row 4, launching in 2013. That game saw players become the President of the United States and fight back against an invading army of aliens using godlike superpowers, so it's fair to say there's no telling what direction this new iteration will take.

As for what else will show up at Gamescom, several companies have announced their involvement. As mentioned earlier, Xbox will have a big presence at the show, hosting a broadcast where it'll talk about its upcoming releases. It'll be joined by Ubisoft, Bethesda, Bandai Namco, SEGA, 505 Games, and several other major names. A few specific games have even been teased to appear, including LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and Splitgate.

Saints Row 5 is currently in development. Players will seemingly find out more about the game during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25 at 11:00 AM PT.
