Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World got a video-game adaptation in 2010 as a tie-in to the movie, which eventually got delisted from both platform due to licensing issues.
The game was well received and seen by fans as a simple beat ’em up with a really good soundtrack, gaining a very devoted niche following just like the movie itself.
It can be safe to say that quite a few consoles avoided being sold simply because they were the only platform capable of playing the game.
O’Malley, Edgar Wright (the film’s director), and Scott Pilgrim fans all tried to rescue the game from licensing hell for years, seemingly to no avail.
Finally in 2020, Ubisoft finally listened to their pleas by announcing a surprise remaster, in celebration of the movie adaptation’s 10th anniversary.
The game eventually released in January of 2021, on PC and consoles, even getting a super impressive deluxe edition from Limited Run Games.
There was only one problem for PC players: the game did not release on Steam because of Ubisoft’s deal with Epic Games, so it released only on the Epic Games Store and Uplay.
Ubisoft’s deal with Epic Games is now over, as the company started bringing their titles back to Steam, with Scott Pilgrim‘s remaster one of their next ports. The game’s Steam release is set to January 5th, 2023, finally allowing users to play the game on the platform.
