Skyloft is a town bursting with life and is home to some of the most colorful NPCs in The Legend of Zelda. Despite the game’s reputation for linearity, Skyward Sword excels when it comes to side quests and side content. There’s a level of care comparable to Majora’s Mask, where NPCs are given a proper place in their world.

Sparrot is Skyloft’s Fortune Teller, filling a role that occasionally pops up through The Legend of Zelda. Link can visit Sparrot at any time to figure out what to do next in Skyward Sword — though this is admittedly a bit useless since the game always lets you know where to go or what to do next. Regardless, Sparrot stands out as one of Skyloft’s most unique residents.
Like any good Fortune Teller, Sparrot needs his Crystal Ball to see the future. Without it, he’s just a bizarre man in a Bazaar with no way to make money. The Fortune Teller side quest requires you to track down a new Crystal Ball after Sparrot unfortunately breaks his and falls into a deep depression. While the Surface is a big place with a lot to explore, finding a new Crystal Ball is surprisingly simple.
Sparrot’s Misfortune
Sparrot’s Crystal Ball only breaks after Link obtains the Double Clawshots down in Lanayru Desert as part of the story. Once you have the item, fly back up to Skyloft and go to the Bazaar to find Sparrot. Unfortunately, Sparrot won’t be at his Fortune Telling booth. Speak to Croo in the Bazaar to learn that Sparrot’s been locking himself at home ever since his Crystal Ball broke.

Find Sparrot’s House in the southeast portion of Skyloft and talk to Sparrot. While he’ll initially try to push you away, he’ll eventually realize that Link can be a big help and task you with finding a brand new Crystal Ball from the Surface. Your only form of guidance is a line of dialogue suggesting that a Crystal Ball can be found “atop a mountain peak.”
Finding The Crystal Ball
Now that you have some idea of where to go, leave Skyloft and head down to the Surface. Specifically, fly to the Eldin Region and land right outside of the Earth Temple. Run all the way to the air geyser to the left of the Temple and ride it up. Take out your Double Clawshot and hook onto the target across the gap.
Drow down below and interact with the Crystal Ball above the Temple to have Scrapper bring it up to the Surface. Return to Sparrot’s Home to see him immersed in his new Crystal Ball. As a reward, Sparrot will give you 5 Gratitude Crystals.
