Spider-Man 3 Theory Ties Scarlet Witch To A Big Doctor Strange Moment

After months of painstaking anticipation, the first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home has finally arrived. For the most part, it confirmed a lot of the theories that fans had early on, but it also left many questions unanswered. One new theory has Scarlet Witch tied to the chaos that Peter Parker becomes engulfed in. But could she really have a hand in how things play out in the film?

In the trailer, we see that Peter Parker is in a lot of trouble. His identity has been revealed to the public after his fallout with Mysterio and now that everybody knows he's Spider-Man, his entire life is turned upside-down. When his situation starts to take a toll on friends and family, Peter turns to Doctor Strange for help, hoping that he has some sort of magical solution to his plight. This is where Doctor Strange's big moment in the trailer comes in — the sorcerer agrees to cast a powerful spell that would make everyone in the world forget Peter is Spider-Man, despite a steely warning from Wong to not mess with that kind of magic.

Peter then appears to interrupt Doctor Strange's attempt to cast the spell properly and the two heroes end up hurtling through the multiverse, where they meet familiar threats from other Spider-Man timelines. But what if Peter wasn't the reason why the spell went haywire? As previous Marvel Studios titles have shown, the mystic realm is incredibly delicate and even the slightest imbalances could have drastic effects on reality. We see this especially in WandaVision, where Wanda tapped into chaos magic under the watchful eye of a suspicious Agatha Harkness.

According to the comic books, chaos magic is a type of magic so powerful that not even the Sorceror Supreme himself thought it existed. Given that this magic can "manipulate, warp, and reconstruct the fabric of existence and reality" at the user's will, it wouldn't be too farfetched to speculate that it has something to do with Doctor Strange's failed spell casting. The most compelling clue is the state of the Sanctum Sanctorum during Peter's visit — the entire place is oddly covered in snow, which could hint at something being askew. Could Wanda's use of chaos magic have caused a rip in the mystic realm? Will her role inthe Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have something to do with bringing order back to the multiverse?

There's also the mystery regarding Doctor Strange's true intentions. As we've seen from Avengers: Infinity War, he tends to act with purpose and his decisions typically play into the bigger picture. After all, being proactive is how he managed to find the outcome that helped the Avengers defeat Thanos. Could it be that Doctor Strange already knew the multiverse would be affected by his spell and that opening it would be a necessary step to prepare the world for a greater threat? Going even further, could that threat be Kang the Conqueror, the same villain who was teased at the end of Loki? Only time will tell.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set for a theatrical release on December 17, 2021.
