What We Played #521 – Back 4 Blood, House of Ashes & Jackbox Party Pack 8

It’s been another week that’s just flown by, hasn’t it? Though October is typically jam-packed with game releases and reviews, this week has felt like the eye of the storm. There’s been House of Ashes, but aside from that, all I can say is that Monday is going to be a heckin’ busy day.

I started off the week playing more Back 4 Blood with Nick to help him finish off our review. I feel it has potential for players to sink plenty of time into it, but the first run through the campaign is just far too gruelling on what should be the lowest difficulty. I also played half a dozen stages in Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, spent an evening exploring a little bit of Astroneer in co-op, and had a fun night with the new Jackbox Party Pack (number 8, that is). I’m also busy working on something for review that you’ll see toward the end of next week.

As already mentioned, Tuffcub played House of Ashes, and that’s about it this week – catch his review here. Aran’s also been playing something that he can’t tell you about yet, so we’ll hurriedly move along to Gamoc who has joined the “I only play one game” crowd. He’s spent the week simply smashing his way through Diablo 2 Resurrected, now that the servers seem to be functioning more reliably.

Jim’s popped by to say “I’ve been caught in a loop. A Deathloop! Honestly, I’ve been having a great time with Arkane’s latest, which continues to surprise me. The studio has done a superb job in packaging Deathloop in a way that suits my ‘dive in for 20 twenty minutes’ style of play. At the same time, each skirmish is helping to fill out my investigation board as I come closer to killing Blackreef’s visionaries in one (hopefully) perfect loop.”

He’s also wrapped up Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, which didn’t quite grip him the same way as the last couple of games did, has sunk into Chrono Trigger for his JRPG fix, but is about to hop on over to the Apple Arcade exclusive Fantasian instead.

It’s been plenty of Back 4 Blood to start the week for Nick P, as he and I finished off the game’s review (which you can read here), and once that was done and dusted he returned to his usual diet of Fortnite and Dead by Daylight, which has the new Hour of the Witch content for him to play.

With 16 years of pent up expectation, Steve finished playing Psychonauts 2 and thoroughly enjoyed it. After that he played a few games that were about to leave Game Pass: “Eastshade is a really chill combat free take on an Elder Scrolls style world that is a great way to unwind in the evening. Unruly Heroes is fun but the multiplayer part is pretty broken with the way the camera snaps to the first player in the platforming part and Carto is fine but no more than that.”

Mister Miguel has got his Fortnite fix in, while also playing Neptunia X Senran Kagura Ninja Wars. You’d think this would be the thirstiest game out there, wouldn’t you? Would you be wrong?

Lastly we come to Dom, He’s been playing Toy Soldiers HD, Age of Empires 4, and Halo Reach, “which is what I play when my brain is mush.”
