In November of 2020, Microsoft launched the most recent versions of its popular Xbox line of video game consoles. Opting to take somewhat of a different approach to the standard single console strategy of the past, Microsoft instead released two significantly different variants of its next-generation Xbox.
The Xbox Series S is a smaller, cheaper, and less powerful version that allows casual gamers to get the latest games available at a more frugal entry point, while the flagship Xbox Series X trades that affordability for raw horsepower. The two consoles feature different visual designs as well, with the Series X sporting a larger, all-black PC-like look versus the more svelte, high contrast white and black design of the Series S.

So while the cheaper Xbox Series S may not be the most powerful console on the market, there is no denying it is certainly a visually striking one. On top of that, a resourceful Reddit user has found an ingenious way to enhance the already distinctive look of the device. By placing a white Xbox decal over the black vent cover of his Xbox Series S, user saveablekindbeats has given his Xbox a more cohesive look that brings the Xbox branding to the forefront of the device.

Other members of Reddit’s Xbox community adore saveablekindbeats’ modification, praising the new look and claiming that it should have been the original design. The post has earned over 200 upvotes on the site as of writing. The decal is a custom design from the website FlamingToast, which allows users to upload images and get them printed out in the dimensions required for the console of their choice.
While it may seem a little superfluous to change a gaming console’s look, in many cases these devices can be front and center in a user’s space – Sony’s PS5 was subject to hilarious memes for its bold design. When something is that highly visible, it makes sense for a player to want their devices to fit their home and be visually attractive. Customization also gives users a way that they can make a device their own and express their own creativity through modifications.
Of course, saveablekindbeats’ Xbox Series S isn’t the only type of game console that can be visually modified. Skin manufacturer Dbrand has custom black panels for the PS5 available for purchase and many other users have shown off impressive custom PS5 designs of their own. Still, there is something about saveablekindbeats’ Xbox Series S that is elegant in its simplicity.
