Black Myth Wukong Is Definitely Not A Musou Game, According To New Clip

Last time we heard from Black Myth Wukong was during Chinese New Year when developer Game Science celebrated the Year of the Bull with a special bull-themed trailer. Since then, the developers have been mostly radio silent as they continue to work on their epic Journey To The West-inspired adventure.

Today marks the first time that silence has been broken in six months. Game Science's website has just been updated with six new videos showcasing various aspects of the game's development and what Game Science is doing to test the limits of its game's engine.

The first video is a short clip of a giant ogre who appears to be wielding other giant enemies as clubs. It's certainly an interesting look at what models and animations Black Myth Wukong have, but not particularly interesting.

Once we jump to the third video, however, we see Wukong take on a horde of hundreds, perhaps even thousands of armored enemies in a fog-covered battlefield. Here we see the absolute limit of what modern technology can do as Black Myth Wukong's frame rate drops to the single digits trying to render every enemy at once.

We're guessing this is Game Science's way of telling us that Black Myth Wukong isn't going to turn out to be a Musou-style experience. This is just a tech demo and most likely not something indicative of what to expect in the final game.

The other clips on Game Science's website are also interesting looks at the game's physics, while one apparently hints at Black Myth Wukong making the jump to Unreal Engine 5.

The last tech test is just some tassels floating in the wind, but it's an incredible look at modern lighting and environmental effects. You'd also think that you're looking at real-life footage rather than a game rendering.

Black Myth Wukong still doesn’t have a release window, but when it arrives, it’ll be for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
