Borderlands 4 may be many years in the future if rumors of its development are to be believed, but there's no doubt that the game has a lot of questions to answer. While the Borderlands franchise may be mostly focused on comedic characters and fantastical weapons, there is also an extensive amount of lore that has only expanded with each new installment. From the many Vaults to iconic villains, the franchise's narrative content is almost as well thought out as the hundreds of ways players can arm themselves.
One of the deepest areas of Borderlands lore concerns the Sirens, a group of individuals who possess incredible powers and make up one of the playable classes in the three main games. The Sirens have always played a major role in the Borderlands story, but Borderlands 3 really took that status and brought it to a whole new level by greatly expanding on Siren lore. Now, with many fans looking towards the future of the franchise with Borderlands 4, there are going to be plenty of opportunities to follow up on what Borderlands 3 introduced while building on the franchise's established Siren lore.

Following Up Nyriad's Story From Borderlands 3
Borderlands 3 had many side stories that took players to all kinds of different worlds, but the one most concerned with Siren lore was centered on the ancient Siren Nyriad. As players progressed through the game, they could find messages left behind by Nyriad. Each of these messages explained her past and provided a lot of backstory on Sirens as a whole, and Borderlands 4 would have an opportunity to expand on her character even further. Even though players never actually see her, Nyriad's effect on Borderlands lore cannot be understated, so giving her some kind of physical presence could further boost her influence.
Finding The Seventh Siren In Borderlands 4
Out of the many bits of lore in Borderlands, one of the most rock-solid for many years was the fact that there can only be six Sirens at any given time. The aforementioned Nyriad broke this perception wide open in Borderlands 3 with her last message that warned players not to find the seventh Siren. Not only did this greatly shake up what players knew of Siren lore, but it gave them a lot of questions for why this Siren shouldn't be found. If the seventh Siren is such a colossal threat, it could give Borderlands 4 one of the most powerful villains in the series, and add an extra layer of depth to the Sirens as a whole.
Borderlands' Unknown Siren Powers
The most defining trait of the Sirens is their unique powers, with each Siren having a power different from every other. Players have been able to use some of these with Lilith, Maya, and Amara, and other Sirens throughout the franchise have demonstrated their powers in some way or another. Just as not all of the Sirens have been seen throughout Borderlands, not all Siren powers have been seen either. Borderlands 4 could give its Siren one of these unknown powers, filling out the lore of Siren powers while also making sure that players have a new reason to choose the Siren class.
Borderlands 3 did a lot to set up a strong amount of Siren lore, and Borderlands 4 should have more than enough opportunities to make sure all of that gets future attention. Fans are still clamoring for more information on the whereabouts of Lilith after the events of Borderlands 3, and between the seventh Siren and the unknown powers, Borderlands 4 will likely be one of the franchise's strongest entries for Siren fans. The existence of Borderlands 4 is largely up to speculation at this point, however, so there really is no telling where the franchise could go from here.
