Cyberpunk 2077 Megamod Essentially Rebalances the Entire Game

Cyberpunk 2077 has now been avialable for over eight months, and while many fans of CD Projekt Red are still waiting for further major updates to the futuristic action-RPG, others aren't so patient. As such, a newly released mod for Cyberpunk 2077 took matters into its own hands. It's titled "Full Gameplay Rebalance," and as its name implies, it completely reworks the balance of Cyberpunk 2077 to create what mod creator Scissors123454321 has labeled a proper megamod.

Scissors' short description for their Cyberpunk 2077 megamod doesn't fully capture the scope of their work, but it's a good start. "Balancing, bug fixes, reworks, and new content for all aspects of Cyberpunk's gameplay. The Megamod," is what's included in the Full Gameplay Rebalance mode by the creator's own words. And by all accounts, Scissors wasn't exaggerating. The megamod truly does touch on all of Cyberpunk 2077's gameplay.

The first, and what Scissors considers largest, change to Cyberpunk 2077 is the removal of level scaling. Cyberpunk 2077 players likely know that as you level in the game, it actually gets harder. That's because with each level, enemies gain health and damage at a scale much faster than the player. The end result is that players will be much weaker during much of Cyberpunk 2077's content to start, with a much more balanced endgame difficulty. Removing scaling also allows for a lot of other interesting gameplay changes for endgame.

With scaling removed, Scissors had to basically start from the ground up with AI balancing, allowing them to make improvements in many dramatic ways. To start, the megamod adds customization options for enemy HP, DPS, and randomness, for custom difficulty. As an example of a new feature, Scissors implemented enemy armor, empowering certain Cyberpunk 2077 bosses, enemies, and enemy types. Enemies, in general, are stronger, too. They're faster, have better aim (but more balanced damage), have more intelligent detection, and strengths tied into their type, like Androids being more resistant to headshots.

Those are just two of the largest systems to be reworked in the megamod. Scissors also changed how armor, cyberware, explosions, food and drink, healing, melee, Perks, weapons, and so much more work. The amount of time that went into building the mod and testing it had to be significant, but Scissors believes Cyberpunk 2077 is a better game because of it.

What's particularly interesting in Scissors' mod is their descriptions for many of the changes. So many of the changes are based on completely baffling decisions by CD Projekt Red, like broken systems and balance issues that can't just be fixed without removing systems like level scaling. Regardless, modders are there to do what CD Projekt Red may not be able or willing to do.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
