Destiny 2: The Witch Queen Void Subclass Rework Will Retain Nova Warp

Good news for fans of Nova Warp, the Warlock ability that recently got buffed in Season of the Lost. When Void 3.0 arrives in Destiny 2’s next big expansion, you won’t have to worry about Nova Warp disappearing.

That comes straight from Destiny 2 game director Joe Blackburn who sat down with Polygon to discuss the recently revealed Void 3.0 subclass rework. One of the things that everyone was worried about was how some Super abilities might be removed in Void 3.0 to better fit the mold created by the Stasis ability system, which Void 3.0 is based on. Thankfully, Blackburn is putting any fears that Nova Warp will disappear to bed.

“There are no plans right now, for us, for players to lose anything substantial in the conversion,” said Blackburn. “If you’re talking about something like Nova Warp, or if you’re talking about something like Spectral Blades, we want to make sure all of that is there. One of the things we’re really passionate about is when players log in on day one in The Witch Queen and they’re exploring Void 3.0, that they don’t feel like a bunch of stuff got taken away from them.”

Last year, former game director Luke Smith (who now manages the Destiny IP as a whole for Bungie) hinted that Nova Warp could disappear when Light classes were reworked sometime in the future. At the time, Smith was speaking purely in hypotheticals, but it got some Destiny 2 fans worried that the rework might get rid of beloved (if somewhat maligned) Supers.

That definitely won't happen, Blackburn said. The idea with the Light subclass rework is to decouple Supers from their subclass perks to let players mix and match the abilities and the perks they want using the Aspect and Fragment system introduced in Beyond Light.

Blackburn did say that some less exciting passive perks might be tossed, but that new, more exciting ones would replace them. Also, similar Supers like Hunter Arc Staff or Titan Striker might get amalgamated into one Super that can then be further customized using Aspects/Fragments.

One thing Blackburn assured fans is that players won’t have to unlock their abilities again when Void 3.0 drops next year.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen arrives on February 22, 2022, bringing the Void subclass rework along with it. Arc and Solar subclass reworks will come sometime after.
