Does Splitgate Have Crossplay? | Game Rant

Splitgate is quickly picking up traction thanks to its unique premise. On the surface it may seem like any other arena shooter game, but players have the unique capability of using portals during matches. Much like the iconic puzzle game Portal, players can link two locations and then pass between them seamlessly. One major determining factor when purchasing a primarily multiplayer game such as this is whether or not it supports crossplay. These games are most fun when playing on a team with friends, and for those players that have their friends spread across several platforms, cross-play is essential.

As of July 27th, 2021, Splitgate is available to play on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. At the moment, there is no word about potential ports to the Nintendo Switch or Google Stadia, but hopefully this will come sometime in the future. There is some good news to be had about cross-play, however.

Splitgate supports cross-play between PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, this is all platforms that the game is currently available on. This means that players will be able to load into matches together no matter what setup they are using, which has a lot of positive effects. Even outside the local sphere of letting friends play together more, cross-play does wonders for keeping matchmaking times short and helping games to stay lively. One big community is almost always better than several smaller ones confined to their own space.

In order to use the crossplay features in Splitgate, players need to go to the Friends tab. Here, search for a Splitgate ID number and send that over to a friend. Players can use these codes to add each other to a friends list regardless of platforms, at which point they can queue up for matches together as normal. Cross-play is enabled by default, but players wanting to play only with others on their system can do so by disabling it in the settings menu. The option can be found under the Privacy tab in this menu, but be warned that it will increase the time players have to wait to find a match.

More and more games are adopting cross-play, and in some cases, this even includes cross-progression features that allow players to switch systems at will. At the time of writing, Splitgate does not support this feature, so players will need to start over if they want to play on a different platforms. This may be something that changes in the future, but there's no official word on this yet.

Splitgate is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
