ZeniMax Online Studios has released a new trailer showing footage from new dungeons that will be coming in an upcoming DLC for The Elder Scrolls Online. Titled Waking Flame, it will be a part of the Gates of Oblivion adventure and began earlier this year.
Gates of Oblivion started with the Flames of Ambition DLC back in March and continued with the Blackwood chapter this summer. While the former added a couple of dungeons to the game, the latter was a full expansion that launched with a brand-new zone. Blackwood also introduced a new companion system that allowed players to recruit NPC allies to travel and fight alongside them.

The Waking Flame DLC continues on from Blackwood and will lead players closer to the conclusion of Gates of Oblivion in the next story-driven DLC for ESO. The trailer states that the Order of the Waking Flame, a cult dedicated to the Daedric Prince Mehrunes Dagon, is searching for dangerous relics of the past, and it is up to the players to unravel his schemes. Since the DLC primarily consists of two new dungeons, the trailer focuses on showing enemy encounters and boss fights. The two new dungeons are called The Dread Cellar and Red Patel Bastion, and can be reached via Blackwood and Glenumbra respectively.
The Dread Cellar is a prison that holds one of the Empire’s darkest secrets, while Red Patel Bastion is a fortress where players can uncover the truth behind the fall of a once noble order of knights. Both 4-player dungeons add a number of unique sets to The Elder Scrolls Online that give stat bonuses and special buffs. As an example, when all pieces of the Thunder Caller Set are equipped, a bolt of lightning strikes an enemy whenever they are damaged by a fully-charged heavy attack.
The dungeon encounters shown in the trailer all look exciting, and the Waking Flame DLC continues the tradition of offering a steady release of content every year. A new story-driven DLC called Deadlands is also scheduled to release in Q4 2021 for players that mainly play The Elder Scrolls Online for its narrative and quests.
In order to ensure a smooth launch, ZeniMax Online Studios has decided to launch Waking Flame on August 23 on PC/Stadia and September 8 on consoles. It will cost players 1500 crowns and will be available as a part of the monthly subscription ESO Plus. Launching alongside the DLC is Update 31 that will introduce a number of changes, including improved graphics and performance options for players on all platforms.
The Elder Scrolls Online is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
