Fortnite Dataminers Think They’ve Found An Open-World RPG Mode In The Files

Fortnite dataminers have found images and text that might relate to an open-world RPG mode.

Reliable Fortnite leaker iFireMonkey first posted an image to their Twitter a few days ago, showing Peely, Jonesy, Fishsticks, and Cuddle Team Leader all rounded up together. As pointed out by several Fortnite players, the characters all look very different from how they do in the main mode, with weird proportions and facial expressions.

It's also been pointed out that all of the character's are wielding weapons that aren't guns, such as a bow and arrow, a spear, a staff, and a sword. It's because of these two elements of the picture that many players are now predicting that this is an open-world RPG mode, as the four characters seem as if they've got different classes from one another. The massive creature in the background also indicates this is something different from the main game mode.

The Apple vs Epic court case previously made reference to Epic working on an open-world mode for Fortnite, and fans now believe that this image is our first look at that mode. Since being found, the test image has actually been removed from the game outright, hinting that it was seen a little too early. That doesn't outright confirm the rumours, but it does indicate that something is being worked on behind the scenes.

More possible leaks have come out since the image was released, including one post on GamingLeaksAndRumours that suggests the working title is "Back to Growth". The post suggests that the mode will launch as Season 3 begins, and is a completely separate open-world mode from Battle Royale and Save the World. RPG elements are mentioned throughout the post, including different types of skills the player can use, quest lines, and character customisation.

Interestingly, this post also claims that Save the World development will be transferred over to People Can Fly, who previously worked on Fortnite back when it was just the one game mode.
