Leaker Alleges That PUBG Is Going Free-To-Play

As spotted by GamesRadar, a renowned leaker has claimed that the hit battle-royale PUBG may go free-to-play based on player feedback.

"PUBG wants to go free-to-play," PlayerIGN opened, "It's going to track player responses in a free-to-play week that's happening next month. Keep in mind, PUBG originally wanted to go free-to-play back in 2019 but it didn't get the player response that it wanted."

The alleged free-to-play week that's "happening next month" hasn't been confirmed or announced yet by the developer but, in the case that it's revealed, it would add credence to these claims. Nonetheless, PUBG has attempted free-to-play avenues in the past such as with the recently shut down Lite version which was a significantly easier to run, less demanding version of the base PUBG game. Beyond that, there's the mobile version available on Android and iOS that does not cost any money to download.

This same leaker has also been covering a Krafton press conference in South Korea, translating it into English. There, it revealed that it is working on a video game adaptation of the Korean novel 'The Bird That Drinks Tears.' Krafton described this new game as being like "Korean Witcher."

Meanwhile, a new survival outing has been unveiled called PUBG Cowboy while there is a project – allegedly, according to leaks, another battle royale but from Striking Distance Studios, led by Glen Schofield – called Titan.

Krafton seems to be busy, nonetheless, in expanding the PUBG brand. If it goes free-to-play, it could potentially rope more players in much as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive did only recently. Otherwise, there's the survival horror in the same world from the co-creator of Dead Space coming. It's called the Callisto Protocol. That's a lot of PUBG underway.
