Minecraft: Spyglass Scope Texture Shows Your Estimated Distance From Blocks

Though Minecraft has been out for numerous years, we’re still seeing a lot of interesting new mods, inventions, and creations from fans. Minecraft was even number three in the top 15 best-selling games on the Nintendo Switch in Europe for the month of July, so it’s clearly not going anywhere any time soon.

Most recently, one dedicated fan—Reddit user pqroxysm—shared a new creation of theirs. They made a spyglass scope texture, which actually shows you an estimated distance between yourself and blocks that are off in the distance. All you must do is align the crosshair and respective lines beside stated distances in blocks. You can watch the demonstration video below.

While this is certainly interesting and could potentially be a useful tool, many are in agreement that it could be improved upon by alternating the numbers on both the left and right side instead of keeping them all on the right. This texture pack is available for download, so you can check it out for yourself and decide how useful you think it is. The creator notes that it works best with FOV 75.

In other Minecraft news, players have started to use cow surfing to get around. For this new and effective mode of transportation, all you must do is make a flat plane with a bunch of cows, make a single concrete block as a launch pier, place your canoe on top of that pier, and then equip a bundle of wheat. Just push yourself off into the mass of cows, and you’re on your way.
