New Stargirl Trailer Teases Fight Scene With Green Lantern’s Daughter

The CW has released an extended trailer for the second season of DC's Stargirl ahead of its August debut and it looks like there will be a couple of new faces joining Brec Bassinger's Courtney Whitmore on-screen. Perhaps the most exciting moment in the video was the encounter between Stargirl and Jade, who was introduced in the first trailer as the daughter of Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern.

Stargirl season 2 will explore the events following the defeat of the Injustice Society in season 1, which has left Courtney and her comrades conflicted in terms of their priorities. At the one-minute mark of the new trailer, there is a short scene that teases the fight sequence between Stargirl and Jade, and it looks like it's going to be one heck of an epic exchange.

From the Stargirl trailer, we see that Courtney still wants to keep up the fight against evil, while the other heroes (especially Cameron Gellman's Hourman) are not so sure whether there is even a need to fight now that their town is seemingly safe from any threats. Courtney's struggle to balance her teenage life and superhero life will be one of the main focuses of the upcoming season, as well as the rise of Nick Tarabay's Eclipso and Jonathan Cake's Shade, two powerful Stargirl villains who will break up the peace that the Justice Society of America (JSA) had worked so hard to establish.

Of course, JSA fans have been long-awaited the debut of a live-action Green Lantern on the series and with the appearance of Ysa Penarejo's Jade in the extended trailer, it looks like their wish will finally be granted. Penarejo joins a stellar cast that includes Joel McHale as Starman, Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan, Anjelika Washington as Dr. Midnite, Yvette Monreal as Yolanda Montez, and Hunter Sansone as Icicle Jr. There will also be some exciting guest stars making appearances this season, including Jim Gaffigan's Thunderbolt and DC legend John Wesley Shipp, who will reprise his role as the Golden-Age Flash (Jay Garrick).

Although Stargirl has been transferred to The CW (i.e., broadcast television) from DC Universe (i.e., streaming), Bassinger says that there won't be any significant changes made to the cast or the writing. She confirmed that Geoff Johns is still the showrunner and that the show is his passion project, and he wouldn't let anyone agree to any major alterations during the transition.

Stargirl season 2 premieres on The CW on August 11, 2021.
