Resident Evil 4 logo spotted in Sony’s promotional video, remake on the way?

Play Has No Limits, the new promotional video from Sony, has many games hidden away in the background. Some are on posters and there are more oblique references, for example the 06.10 train is going to Valisthea, the setting for Final Fantasy XVI. You can watch the video below and see how many games you can spot.

One I bet you didn’t see, and I missed when I took a first look at all the games referenced in the video, is the logo for the Las Plagas parasite from Resident Evil 4. You can see at the 1m 46s mark on a pillar on the side of a doorway.

The rest of the games referenced in the video are either current or forthcoming titles on PlayStation with one notable exception. Pac-Man can be seen on another pillar in the station sequence and so far there are no Pac-Man games coming to PS5. Of course this might be nothing, in years past other Sony promotional videos regularly featured Crash Bandicoot, many years before the remakes were announced.

A remake of Resident Evil 4 has been rumoured since early 2020. It was reported that the Resident Evil 4 Remake was in full production, and is set to be released in 2022. Development itself is allegedly underway at M-Two, an Osaka based studio that was founded by former Platinum Games boss Tatsuya Minami. The studio partly worked on the Resident Evil 3 remake. Shinji Mikami declined the offer to lead the team on working on the remake of the game he originally directed.

While Resident Evil 4 has been ported to various consoles since its 2005 release the game has not been the subject of an absolute full remake. It is likely this remake will follow similar patterns to both the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes with upgraded assets and gameplay changes. It could be a game-changer again like it was in 2005 when it introduced the over the shoulder camera view and changed how action games were played.
