The Witcher 3 Current Gen Is Free For Previous Owners, DLC Coming To All Consoles

The Witcher 3's upcoming Netflix-inspired DLC will be available for free to everyone, not just adopters of the current-gen upgrade of the game.

This was confirmed by the official Witcher Twitter account, which shared an image of the updated cover art for the current-gen upgrade of the game.

Before you ask:
– the next-gen update will be free for everyone who already owns the game
– the DLCs are not exclusive to the next-gen version, they will be available for every version of the game (including PS4, Xbox One and Switch)

One of the bigger announcements attached to the showing of the current generation upgrade was the addition of some Netflix-inspired DLC to the game. Some fans believed that was exclusive to the re-release of the game since it was announced alongside the new cover art, but the Twitter account has now clarified that's not the case.

The Witcher Twitter account said, "Before you ask: the next-gen update will be free for everyone who already owns the game. The DLCs are not exclusive to the next-gen version, they will be available for every version of the game (including PS4, Xbox One and Switch)".

Besides confirming that all players on all consoles will be able to access the DLC, and reconfirming that the current-gen upgrade will be completely free to people who have owned the game previously, it should indicate the scale of the new DLC coming to the game.

If it's coming to every version of the game, it seems likely that the content is just going to be some new skins for some of the main characters, which is still good considering it's free for all players. No other details on the DLC or upgrade were revealed during the conference, although with the current-gen version releasing this year, it's likely that we'll be hearing about it soon.

The announcement of free DLC came alongside the reveal of several other Witcher announcements, although it was mostly centred on the Witcher Netflix show. The biggest reveal was the announcement that Season 2 of The Witcher will be premiering on December 17 on Netflix. We also found out that Geralt almost didn't make it into the first game at all. There was also a bathtub cosplay if that's your thing.
