Tidus hasn’t always had the best reputation among Final Fantasy players. He’s often considered “whiny”, and best remembered for his infamous laughing scene (which in context is brilliant stuff, you fools). But this crowd certainly isn’t indicative for the community as a whole, as the boisterous protagonist bags the spot for the most popular Final Fantasy X character.
Tidus only just takes the top spot however, as he’s closely followed by Yuna. If that wasn’t surprising enough though, Tidus’s not-so-great dad, Jecht, actually made it into fifth place, making him more popular than Lulu and Wakka. The full results are as follows:

The survey didn’t just focus on the iconic cast. Fans were also asked for their favourite quotes, music tracks, minigames, enemies, attacks, and party combinations.
There are many other shocking stats in these results – including the surprising popularity of Blitzball and lighting dodging. Blitzball took first place for the most popular minigame, with both pieces of side content scoring higher than Chocobo racing and the monster arena.
As for the fan favourite music track, the winner couldn’t be clearer. “To Zanarkand” is in first place, with 786 respondents voting for this simple piano melody. “Suteki Da Ne” is in second, with 283 – the biggest drop off between first and second place in the entire survey.
Perhaps the most unsurprising result is the fan favourite quote. This award goes to Auron’s iconic line early in the game: “This is your story”. Yet despite the Tidus love, one of Jecht's insults towards him actually made it on the list too: “You'll cry. You're gonna cry. You always cry. See? You're crying.” Nice one guys.
The questionnaire results are part of the latest issue of Famitsu (as spotted by FrontlineJP), and commemorates the upcoming 20th anniversary of Final Fantasy X. The tenth main series entry to the long-running JPRG series originally launched July 19, 2001, and has since had a sequel and multiple re-releases. Square Enix hasn’t even ruled out the possibility of another direct sequel, Final Fantasy X-3.
