WWE 2K22 Teaser Reveals A March 2022 Release Date

A new 30-second teaser trailer for WWE 2K22 was revealed during last night’s SummerSlam event. The WWEGames Twitter handle had been building up to the reveal a few days back, with Edge making his entrance.

The trailer didn’t show off much in the way of gameplay or features, but gave us a quick montage of some of the big names we can expect to see in the game, including Rey Mysterio, Roman Reigns, Kane, Goldberg, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Bobby Lashley. It signed off revealing a March 2022 release date.

While we don’t know all that much about the game, Forbes’ Brian Mazique did manage to get some inside information last week. Mazique claimed that WWE 2K22 was completely rebuilt from the ground up after the series’ previous installment. WWE 2K20, which was riddled with issues and managed to get the lowest Metacritic score in 2K’s history. Considering that 2K21 was cancelled, this was the perfect opportunity for the developer to revamp things. Those with knowledge of the current state of 2K22 told Mazique that the gameplay was fantastic.

“That is actually the word that was used for the latest build. The people who were playing the latest build have said the gameplay is fantastic,” he said on his YouTube channel. “I have been told that the game is playing fantastic and that the gameplay engine is completely rebuilt.” Mazique also notes he had been told WWE 2K22 will have much cleaner controls compared to previous games in the series. Now, what cleaner means, I don’t know, but the last thing that I heard about this… is that this feels like a wrestling fan’s wrestling game.”

Not much else is known about the development of the game, we’ll probably start getting more details towards the end of the year. In May, we reported that developer Visual Concepts was using brand new facial scanning technology. The developer constructed an 80 high-resolution camera rig in order to capture images of wrestlers from every angle; this would enhance the likeness to their in-game models. The developer tweeted out a video of Hall of Famers Ric Flair and Booker T being captured by the setup.
