Dark Souls 3 has a surprising number of NPCs for players to find. Most of these NPCs are tied to some sort of quest, most of which are completed by finding certain items scattered throughout the world. One such NPC, Karla, is vital to achieving a good ending with Irina of Carim.

Karla specializes in the dark arts, granting players access to some of DS3's more heretical pyromancies and miracles. Beyond finding tomes needed to learn these spells, players will also have to find Karla and bring her back to Firelink Shrine. Here is a short guide on where to find Karla in Dark Souls 3, along with how to rescue her.

Karla can be found in the Irithyll Dungeon, locked in an isolated cell on ground level. Finding her exact cell location is quite simple:
-
From the Irithyll Dungeon bonfire, proceed through the level as normal until you reach a room patrolled by a small group of jailers.
- The room is after the rat-infested tunnel, located just after an encounter with a Giant.
- If you have the bonfire elevator shortcut unlocked, use it to skip this step.
- In the jailer room, hug the right wall. Keep running until you reach a small series of steps near the end of the room.
- Run up the stairs and hang right. Run past the Jailer.
- Karla's cell will be on your left.
Unfortunately, Karla's cell is locked. You'll need a Jailer's Key Ring to open the door.

You'll find the Jailer's Key Ring in Profaned Capital, located right after the optional swamp section. Spawn at the Profaned Capital bonfire. Descend the long ladder. Run outside the dilapidated building to find a path to a swamp. Run to the closest wall of the building in the swamp, then climb the ladder on the wall. Make your way to the rooftop.

Now, focus your attention on a stone wall adjacent to the building. The wall has a small staircase in the middle that is just wide enough for a person to fit in. You must jump from the rooftop to the narrow staircase in the wall. Landing this is quite finicky, but failing this jump shouldn't amount to any fall damage. Keep attempting the jump until you make it.
After you've made the jump, run up the stairs. You'll be led back to Irithyll Dungeon. The end of the path has the Jailer's Key Ring. Two invisible Jailers will attempt to ambush you when you reach this point. Either use a Homeward Bone or backtrack to the Irithyll Dungeon bonfire. Make your way back to Karla, open her cell, then speak to Karla. She'll teleport to Firelink Shrine when the conversation ends.
| Important Note: Should you die while speaking to Karla, she will disappear for the rest of your playthrough. Clear out the Jailers before speaking to her. |
Karla's Location In Firelink Shrine
Talking to Karla will bring her to Firelink Shrine. You'll find her under the left staircase leading to Blacksmith Andre. Reach the blacksmith, run down the stairs to your right, then look under the stairs to find Karla. She'll take both Pyrmomancy Tomes and Dark Braille Divine Tomes.
