Pokemon Uranium was one of the best Pokemon games of all time. The funny thing is, it wasn't even a real Pokemon game. It was a fan-made game made in RPG Maker by a group of dedicated Pokemon fanatics over a development cycle of nine years. When it was finally finished, Pokemon Uranium not only had everything you'd expect from a Pokemon game, from online functionality like trading and battling to an epic story of leaving home and saving the world from a Legendary Pokemon corrupted by Evil, but it also had new features that no true Pokemon game ever had, like the option to play as a non-binary character.
Pokemon Uranium had its full release in 2016 and eventually became so popular the free game got 1.5 million downloads. Unfortunately, that popularity caught the attention of Nintendo and the Uranium devs were served DMCA notices by Nintendo of America. Official development halted late that year, but unofficially, Uranium is still alive and well with periodic updates if you know where to look.
Now, five years later, the same people that brought us Uranium are working on a brand new Pokemon adventure. It's called Pokemon Flux, and the new game's starters just got revealed on the game's official Twitter account.

Just like any self-respecting Pokemon game, these starters include a Water-type (Findolf), a Grass-type (Mozz), and a Fire-type (Chiklit). Findolf is a dog dolphin mix, Mozz is some sort of grass bug, and Chiklit bears a resemblance to Torchic, but might wind up being a Flying-type when it evolves.
We don't know much else about Pokemon Flux as it's still very early in its development. Indie devs @JVgamedev and @voluntarytwitch have been working on Flux for a year using RPG Maker (just like Pokemon Uranium) and have released a few screenshots that show a game that very much resembles Pokemon's fourth generation. The official art also shows three characters and a few other fan-made Pokemon that look like a bat, a dog, and a porpoise.
There’s no release date yet for Pokemon Flux, and there’s also no guarantee that it won’t suffer the same fate as Uranium and get a DMCA takedown from Nintendo. But even if the full release eventually gets hunted down by Nintendo’s lawyers, if it’s even half as good as Uranium, Flux will still be one of the best Pokemon games ever made.
